What are those?!
In walking up to an old 18th century building you might notice the creature like statues on the side!
There was even a fiction tv show based off of their “secret” night life!
You guessed it!
Gargoyles
They traditionally symbolize “guardianship” over a building and supposedly are known to “ward of evil spirits”. What you don’t know is that in the belly and mouth of the different looking ornament is a gaping hole. This hole provides a less noticeable path for water to flow away from the roof. This process prevented water from running down the buildings wall.
So gargoyles were the equivalent to a downspout in 18th century architecture.
