Low slope roof materials
A low-slope roof is one that has a slope of less than 3-in-12. This means that for every
horizontal foot, the roof level goes up less than 3 inches vertically. You can typically find this
roofed using a roll out shingle or torch down system. Here at J Smegal we prefer to use a brand
called PolyGlass.
PolyGlass is a leading manufacturer of modified bitumen roofing and waterproofing
membranes and roof coatings for low- and steep-slope applications. Committed to adding value
through innovation, Polyglass utilizes the most technologically advanced manufacturing
processes in the industry with four state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities.
Some of the products we typically use are:
1. Elastoflex – Cap Sheet
A self-adhered SBS (elastomeric) granulated cap sheet for use in low-slope roofing. also
features SEALLap ® ULTRA, side lap with self-adhesive compound for an instant bond, tested
stronger than all other application methods and FASTLap ® , granule free end lap. Each of
these patented features provide for greater ease of application as well as improved long-
term performance.
2. Elastoflex-Base Sheet
A premium self-adhered elastomeric base ply roofing product. built with a high
performance reinforced fiberglass mat to ensure excellent dimensional stability.
Elastoflex SA V membrane is finished with sand or polyolefin film with laylines on the top
surface and a split release film on the bottom surface.
3. Elastoflex Polar Cap-
A granule surfaced, self-adhered, SBS modified bitumen low-slope roofing membrane.
Designed for colder weather applications, a high quality elastomeric Styrene-Butadiene-
Styrene (SBS) modified asphalt compound is applied on the top layer and an aggressive self-
adhesive compound is applied on the bottom layer. The high performance reinforced
polyester mat provides excellent puncture and tear resistance.
4. Elastoflex Polar Base-
A self-adhered, elastomeric base ply low-slope roofing product designed for colder weather
applications. built with a high performance reinforced fiberglass mat to ensure excellent
dimensional stability.
